Beginner Spinning

Ever wanted to take fibre from sheep to skein? In these sessions, you’ll learn how to spin two-ply yarns with wool on both a drop spindle and on a wheel. Content covers fibre selection and prep, fibre management, drafting and plying, twist principles, types of spindles and wheels, and wheel maintenance.

Includes:

  • Eight hours of instruction in two four-hour sessions or in four two-hour sessions
  • Fibre and a spindle
  • Follow-up coaching*

Fee: $130 for personalized, one-on-one instruction; $100 per person for groups of two to four; pricing for larger groups on request.

Access to a spinning wheel may be arranged during class time.

Spindle Spinning for Beginners

Take a whorl on a spindle (pun intended). In this introductory workshop, you’ll learn how to create a two-ply yarn with wool using a drop spindle. Course content covers types of spindles, fibre selection and prep, twist principles, fibre management, drafting and plying.

Includes:

  • Four hours of instruction in two two-hour sessions
  • Fibre and a spindle
  • Follow-up coaching*

Fee: $65 for personalized, one-on-one instruction; $50 per person for groups of two to four; pricing for larger groups on request.

Learn to Spin on a Wheel

Take a wheel for a spin with this in-depth course. You’ll learn how to produce wool yarn on a spinning wheel. Content covers fibre selection and prep, twist principles, blending, drafting and plying, and wheel maintenance.

Includes:

  • Six hours of instruction in two three-hour sessions or in three two-hour sessions
  • Fibre
  • Follow-up coaching*

Access to a spinning wheel may be arranged during class time.

Fee: $95 for personalized one-on-one instruction; $75 per person for groups of two to four; pricing for larger groups on request.

Spinning With Luxury Fibres

Learn how to prepare, spin and finish luxury fibres and blends, using exotic fibres such as angora, camel, cashmere and yak, and blending with cotton, wool and silk. This is an intermediate to advanced course; participants should be able to make a two-ply yarn on a wheel.

Includes:

  • Four hours of instruction

Fee: $95 per person plus $30 for materials.

Coaching for Beginner and Intermediate Knitters and Spinners

$25 per hour


*Follow-up coaching includes up to four, 30-minute sessions during the month following the course or workshop.
